Our names are Megan Soulia and Caitlin Moncalieri. Our father Brian Soulia was recently diagnosed with a rare condition that is life threatening. He has what is called a Colloid Cyst. This cyst is a tumor that grows in the center of the brain and causes hydrocephalus, headaches, memory problems, confusion, unconsciousness and worst of all, sudden death if not removed. This condition effects 3 individuals per 1 million people per year.
The reccomended treatment of course is a brain surgery to remove the cyst. Endoscopic removal is the route in which the surgeons in Duluth, MN will be going with sometime around the end of August/early September.
He has an appointment on August 10th for brain mapping. Following shortly after will be the surgery (we haven't been given a date yet).
As expected the medical costs for this procedure and the aftercare for recovery are going to be high. The recovery time is between 12-18 months.
Our father lives in Ironwood, MI with his fiancée Nancy Felker. Nancy is working as much as she can, but because she needs to take so much time off of work to make sure my dad is taken care of while he is awaiting this surgery, she may lose her job. It is hard enough for them to make ends meet with only one income but now with this extra financial burden it is becoming more of a desperate situation which is why I am here asking anyone for help. We live in Marquette MI, which is a far enough trek from our father that we can't always be there to help out when he is experiencing symptoms of this condition nor are we in any position to help financially.
The help we would receive from people would be so much appreciated. We have never felt so lost. Every night we call my dad and we try to take his mind off of this thing but it's just not possible. To aleveate the stress ememnsely we are asking for help. Anything you can give, even a dollar, will help us to make my dad feel safe and for his family to feel that he is receiving all the help he needs and deserves.
As the date for his surgery approaches, we will post updates to keep you all in the loop.
Thank you so much for your time,
Caitlin, Megan, Brian and family.
