Scootering Across the Country to Support William Lawrence Camp

The Scooter Crossing has completed the first ever trans-american electric scooter crossing, travelling 4000 miles, across 10 states, at 18.6 MPH. A documentary film of the experience has just released, which can be viewed by searching "The Scooter Crossing" on YouTube. One of the most important  goals of the trip was to raise money for William Lawrence Camp, and we hope you will continue reading about the importance of this cause.

There is no way I would have had the ambition and confidence to attempt the journey if it wasn’t for my experience at William Lawrence Camp. I was a camper/counselor for 8 years and would not trade the good times had, the lessons learned and the people I met at camp for the world.

William Lawrence has been building character in young men since 1913. The camp has survived the Great Depression, the Spanish-Flu and both World Wars; but last summer marked the first time in its 108-year history it was not able to open its doors. For more on the challenges COVID-19 has posed to camps in the Northeast, and why camp is so important, please see the message from the camp’s director Nathaniel Crane below:

For me, camp left a resounding impact on the rest of my life. I always look back at the ascents of Mount Washington and canoeing trips down the Androscoggin River as a source of inspiration and motivation whenever I feel challenged. The comradery, outdoor skills, sportsmanship, and sense of community at camp is unparalleled to any other environment I have been in. I wish every kid in America could have the same experience at William Lawrence as I did, and I look forward to sending my kids to camp when I eventually have some.

Whether you are a Camp alumni looking to help the camp make it through this challenge or a member of the community at large who is here because of The Scooter Crossing, I hope you will consider contributing to this fund!

William Lawrence Camp will be re-opening for 2021, but needs to convert the indoor dining facility to an outdoor one. The money from this fund will go towards purchasing picnic tables, so campers can enjoy the home cooked meals safely outdoors!

Message from William Lawrence Camp:

We are honored to have Graham helping to raise funds for us through this incredible adventure. Graham’s true nature is  evident in the hard work and determination that he has put in developing and executing this trip and we have to say, it gives us a sense of pride. He is one of ours!

At William Lawrence Camp we believe in building a community of young men who possess inner strength and integrity. Our program is focused around four cornerstones: Willingness, Loyalty, Comradeship and Sportsmanship. As an alumni of William Lawrence, Graham is proving that those cornerstones carry beyond being at camp. With the COVID pandemic causing many Camp Directors to make the heartbreaking decision to pause camp for this summer, it is more important than ever that camps remain financial viable so they may continue to make a life-long impact on those that attend. Graham is willingly putting his body through physical pain, loyally remaining committed to his goal, offering comradery to those on the journey with him and those that he meets on his journey and showing his true sportsmanship by dedicating this immense physical feat to William Lawrence Camp. We are grateful and hope that, with your help, there will always be WLC boys and men making us proud.

We thank you for your support in keeping camp alive so that boys for generations to come may learn the cornerstones needed to take on immense challenges such as this.
