Monthly Operating Costs

My name is Karen, the owner of Sustainable Wares. We are a small women-owned retail business specializing in earth-friendly products. While selling and promoting products from our partners we love sharing information about all things sustainability. Our mission is to be in sustainable service to the local Homer, AK community.

This Go Fund Me campaign is a combination of business rescue, local non-profit fundraiser, and gift card contest. A 70/20/10 fundraiser to put a little fun into it and, of course, I can never keep my requested good fortunes to myself, it must be shared with our community! 70% of the funds will go to Sustainable Wares. 20% will be split between two local non-profits. And, 10% will go towards gift cards for two lucky donors. This is meant to be a fast, furious, and fun campaign, the sooner you can donate the better.

SMALL BUSINESS TRANSPARENCY

The store has been having a hard time making ends meet so far this year. Traditionally, the first few months of the year are supported by the previous year's holiday shopping season, but to be honest, it really sucked last year.

The last three years of operating in pandemic mode and two years and counting of me being sick with Long Covid have caught up to the business. I have not been able to devote the same amount of energy and productivity as I once did and the business has taken a major hit because I am the sole operator/employee of the business. I am not giving up, I just need a little push and encouragement to keep going. These bumpy times are only a pause in the business growth and what I envision for the future. My short and long-term goals will be added to the updates so you know what you are investing in with your generous donations.

THE FINE PRINT

1. 70% of the money raised will go directly to Sustainable Wares to cover basic expenses for the next few months. If we exceed the goal that will give us funds to replenish our inventory.

2. 20% of the funds will be equally split between two non-profits. One non-profit is chosen by me and will be KBBI. The KBBI portion will be used towards business underwriting for the store. The second non-profit will be voted on by our campaign donors. Every $20 you donate buys you a vote. For example, if you donate $60 you can vote for a non-profit three times. It can be the same non-profit or three different ones. Place your votes in the “words of support” section of the Go Fund Me campaign page or send an email/private message with your votes. We are not partnering with any non-profits listed in this campaign. Their only involvement is to receive a portion of the campaign funds.

3. 10% will go towards two gift cards to Sustainable Wares. Every $20 you donate buys you an entry into the drawing. For example, if you donate $60 you get three entries into the contest. I will need an email address and your consent to be added to our store's email list. Please email or private message me with your contact information after you donated at least $20 to be qualified.

4. The percentages will be the total collected (including the funds raised outside of Go Fund Me) minus processing fees.

OTHER WAYS TO DONATE

1. All money collected outside of the Go Fund Me campaign will be added to the 70/20/10 percentages and you will be able to participate in the gift card contest and vote for a non-profit. I will still need your email address to be qualified for the contest.

2. I will set up an “item” on the website to donate directly from the website or use the link to the Go Fund Me campaign page.

3. There is a link on all my social media account bios to buy “gifts” for the store. https://linktr.ee/sustainablewares

4. I will have a jar to collect cash or checks at the store.

The more you share, the more you raise! The more you raise, the more money raised for a non-profit that wins the most votes. The more you raise, the larger the gift card for two lucky winners! The more you raise the more success for the store!
