Citizens for Conway 9-11 Memorial

Donation protected
Hello Friends, my name is Kevin Bass from Conway.  I am a private citizen working independently to raise funds for a 9-11 FD Memorial.

On December 10, 2015, I walked into the Central Fire Station on my lunch hour in order to get a burn permit. When I entered the door to the firefighter's living quarters my heart froze for a moment.

Just inside the door was a massive piece of steel.  An old I-Beam... rusted, bent, twisted bolts.  I instantly recognized where it came from and everything else on my ‘to-do’ list began to fade as I reached out and touched the steel, recalling again that day, and reflecting on the story this piece tells.

343 firefighters died instantly, along with 60 police officers and thousands of other innocent people.   It will never erase from our  memories.

Firefighter Mark McEntire told me that they were ‘fortunate to have obtained the piece', and that they envisioned a Firefighters Memorial where it could be prominently displayed outside of Central Station.   I asked how far along they were on the project and they said “We don’t have any funding”.    I could tell that the artifact carried a lot of meaning for our firefighters.  "Well, I’m good for the first $100" I thought.  But as in many areas of life, just ‘thinking’ is not enough, so I decided to create this page and see what we could make happen.

If you live in Faulkner County and would like to be part of something lasting and help move this piece to a place where it can be seen by all, to help us ‘never forget’, and to honor our own, please consider giving, any amount of course.

Our goal is $15,000 for the project.   The more we can raise the better the memorial can be, and our local firefighters should have a say in the final design (the picture above is conceptual).

Any funds not ultimately spent on the memorial will be donated back to the Conway FD.

These guys would just as quickly run into any burning building in Conway just as the brave men and women ran into the Twin Towers on 9-11.  We should be able to do this both for them, and for our city.

I'm for the first $100... Anybody else?
