Dustin's Medical/Personal Expenses

Donation protected

If anyone knows my brother Dustin (44yo), they would know that he is ALWAYS the life of the party, he lights up a room with his personality and his optimism about LIFE no matter what the situation may be. Well on November 5, 2016, his life and spirits changed forever, he was at my son's wedding when he became violently ill, and was rushed to Spring Valley Hospital in Las Vegas, NV where he underwent emergency surgery to save his life from a perforated colon. He had a procedure called "Hartman's" he came out of the operating room with a huge incision from his pubic bone to his peck area and a Colostomy bag (poop bag connected to his colon). The Surgeon said he was an hour from death. He spent 12 days in the hospital before being sent home, where his wife Jenn, his mom, and his family cared for him day in and day out for 4 months, until he was well enough to get back on his feet. In the meantime, he lost his job of 5 years, and Jenn was the only one working 12-16 hour days, while supporting the household, and medical bills, and trying to aid Dustin back to health.
On May 30, 2017, he went back to Las Vegas for his Hartman's reversal, thinking he was rid of the colostomy bag and would be able to go back to work. Unfortunately the reversal procedure went bad. A 1 hour surgery took 3 1/2 hours and the Surgeon told Jenn that Dustin was a "surgeons nightmare" and that he had several complications which caused him to be unable to reverse the procedure, so he closed up the Colostomy, just to place a ileostomy (poop bag connected to the small intestine). Dustin spent another 10 days in the hospital, to be discharged in time for Jenn's grandma to pass away in California. Jenn had to leave Dustin in the care of our mother, so that she could tend to her grieving family in California.
On June 8, 2017, Dustin woke in the middle of the night with a fever, and a lot of pain. He was taken to HRMC ER, where they discovered that he had a serve infection within his body, and he was septic. The Radiologist placed 2 drains in his abdomen, and transferred him back to Las Vegas, where his Doctor had to run more tests, just to discover that he had a total of 5 loculated fluid pockets, that were not easily accessible. He was placed on a lot of IV medications, pain medications, and under went more procedures. He has lost 50 pounds in 2 weeks. He was on his death bed, and we were not sure that he would survive.
On June 15, 2017, his Doctor said that he was responding to the IV medications and that he now had only 2 loculated fluid pockets and he was stable enough to be discharged home to home health with a Picc line for IV antibiotics 4 times a day, for the next 2 weeks. He is home, and still fighting the infections, with the help of his personal wife nurse Jenn at his side every moment of the day. He is bed-ridden and depressed. He will be unable to work for a while, and has to undergo another reversal procedure in August, but his health insurance said he will not be approved, unless he pays $6,000 to his prior surgeries.
Jenn is almost out of PTO and has to return to work, because Dustin's medical bills are piling up, their household bills are piling up, they have no extra cash or assests. They need financial help and would never ask for it, so I am asking you, your friends, co-workers, family, anyone you can share this with that knows Dustin or doesn't know him, please find it in your hearts to donate to his cause. ANYTHING IS APPREICATED AND WILL BE USED TO FUND HIS MEDICAL BILLS AND HIS/JENN'S HOUSEHOLD FINANCES SO THAT HE AND JENN DON'T LOSE THEIR HOME. THANK YOU SO MUCH!!! XOXO
