Hi, my name is Jean and I am fundraising for my good friend Dustin Hamm. Dustin and I have been friends for many years and he is in desperate need of assistance to get his life back on track. To make a long story short, years ago Dustin was a hardworking man with a wife and home. He had a stable factory job providing for his wife. Unfortunately, his wife Carol was diagnosed with cancer. After months of treatment, he was unfairly fired from his job when he stayed with his wife during surgery. With the loss of their income and health insurance, the two quickly burned through their savings treating Carol's cancer. They would end up losing their house and would begin moving from city to city/state to state, staying with friends trying to find work, and getting Carol treatment. Carol would, unfortunately, pass away in Texas while they were both homeless. Devastated would not be adequate enough to describe how this affected Dustin. he would move around a few more states staying with what friends could provide housing and trying his best to land jobs to no avail. He is currently homeless in Miami. Dustin did end up finding work for a Walmart nearby but a few weeks after he began, he was injured and required intense spinal surgery. He was able to get the surgery but without insurance, there was no physical therapy center that would take him to help him recover and the hospital kicked him out to the street. He has since been wheelchair-bound and still has stitches in his back that the hospital never removed.
How would the $20,000 help Dustin? During his hospital stays, the social worker assigned to his case was able to apply Dustin for Medicare and SSI Disability. The applications are being processed but will take a long time to finish. The money is to help sustain Dustin with shelter, food, and clothing until he is approved and able to begin therapy so he can walk and find work again. Dustin does not drink or do any drugs. The money will mean a great deal to him and myself as well. Dustin is a good man with a kind heart and the spirit of a hard worker, life has thrown him a series of curveballs that have devastated him physically and financially. Please help with whatever you can give. Every little bit helps. Thank you. If you have any questions or would like to talk to Dustin please feel free to reach out.
