Requesting help for a family in need. I met Anya through my boyfriend, Alex (pictured in the photo wearing the hat, standing behind Anya). Alex is the "big brother" to Malachi (to the right of Anya) through the Big Brothers Big Sisters program. Through Malachi and Alex's match, we have become close with the whole family and consider them to be our chosen family.
Anya and her children, Malachi (13), Israel (11 almost 12), Layla (5 almost 6), Mila (2), and Isabel (1) were displaced from their family home due to a house fire a little over a week ago. The mobile home they were living in and what little belongings they had all burned and they have nothing left. Thankfully, no one was hurt, but what is the scariest part is the fire was set intentionally by the children's stepfather. This has been very scary and traumatic for the entire family. They are doing ok, but are struggling to pick up the pieces. They are currently staying with Anya's sister, but between their two families, the house is very crowded and they can only stay temporarily.
Anya is working so hard to get her family through this difficult time, but they are a poor family and Anya is working to support herself and the five children. She has a job as a screen printer in a t-shirt shop but has to cover rent, food, gas, clothing on minimum wage and now replacement of all they lost. Any help you can give is so greatly appreciated. Anya is feeling overwhelmed and stressed and it would be such a blessing to surround them with love and support when they need it most.
We are currently on the hunt for more permanent housing at the moment, but a lot of places have waiting lists and all of them require deposits and rent up front. Please help us get this family up and going again. In my biggest dreams for Anya, we could help her even raise enough to put down money for their own house!! This would be something this family may not ever be able to achieve on their own. Anything you can give will be very much appreciated. It would be so wonderful for this family to not only get them through this terrible time, but make the most of what has been a truly traumatic experience. Thank you all so much. I just know we can alter the direction of this wonderful family.
