Duniya Center Roof Fire and COVID-19 Relief

Donation protected
A Video Message from Bongo Sidibe:

On July 20th, DCAE experienced an electrical fire which damaged its roof. Luckily no one was hurt and the fire did not reach the inside of the building. The roof requires repair and we are raising funds to cover the repairs, so the DCAE can continue to serve as a community space. Additionally, funds will be used to support the COVID-19 relief efforts at the DCAE, including the distribution of cleaning supplies, food, and masks. These relief efforts began in June in the Matoto neighborhood of Conakry, and funds will be used to expand to other neighborhoods. 100% of your contribution will go directly to the DCAE in Guinea.

A video message from the DCAE Assistant Manager, Alhassane Soumah:

"We have been victims of a fire here. There's one part of the center that caught on fire. We're going to show you that on video right now. This is the area that was burned you see. If you can help us to repair this roof, that will be a great help. You can see for yourself what happened. Thank God that the whole center did not burn. The help of the good people around the neighborhood, us who work at the center, and the family members, saved the center from burning down. To conclude, we thank you infinitely. We are very happy and very delighted. And like I said, we want to expand our activities, but we lack the funding. Truly if you can help the center, that will be a great thing. Long live Duniya Center in Guinea, Duniya in the United States. Thank you."

The Duniya Center for Arts and Education (DCAE) in Conakry, Guinea offers artists and administrators courses in computer literacy, language instruction and business skills. Artists are given assistance in creating resumés, teaching and performance flyers, websites, and any other necessary documents for helping them to secure employment. In addition, artists at the Duniya Center take language classes, increasing their opportunity to work with students and other artists from abroad and are able to use the space for rehearsals and classes.
