Dublin Unitarian Refugee Welcome Committee

Donation protected
The Dublin Unitarian Church in St Stephen's Green has decided to sponsor a Syrian refugee family under the Department of Justice's Community Sponsorship of Refugees initiative. This new scheme, following a highly successful Canadian model, involves community groups, churches and other grassroots organisations coming together to welcome, sponsor and look after a refugee family for two years until they have settled in Ireland.

The Unitarian Refugee Welcome Committee, working with the Irish Refugee Council, expects to welcome a Syrian family, who are currently in a camp in Lebanon, to Dublin within the next two-three months. The URWC will help the family to integrate fully into Irish life and society. In particular, we will find accommodation for them and schools for their children; help them find employment, and support them in their health, social welfare and language learning needs.  We will help them to interact with the local community, and to participate in social, cultural, sporting and other activities, while preserving their own national, ethnic, cultural and religious identities.

We are asking the people of Dublin and further afield to support this initiative with a small donation to cover some of the significant expenditure it will involve.

*All donations will be withdrawn to the URWC bank account and funds will be dispersed based on needs identified upon arrival of the family.
