Collen Charity Cycle for Mens Mental Health

Donation protected
On the morning of July 19th, 2019 up to twenty colleagues and stakeholders from our Grangecastle DUB09/DUB10 site will undertake a significant challenge in cycling from Dublin City to Galway City. Starting at the Collen Grangecastle site at 6am; this team of intrepid cyclists will travel west bound from Dublin through the plains of County Kildare, passing through the scenic midlands of County Offaly before heading for the finish through County Galway and towards Galway City.

Once the team reach the finish line straddling Galway Bay they will have completed a distance in excess of 200km over a period of 10hours or more, cycling up a combined climb of over 550 meters which, as I am sure you will agree,  is no mean feat and indeed is a very significant undertaking. The cycling team will be supported by a backup crew consisting of bike mechanics, colleagues and supporters who will complete every stage of this journey by their side.

So why would we undertake such an arduous challenge? – The answer is simple, to confront an even more significant challenge facing every one of us today with or without a bicycle, a challenge that is much greater than any road journey ever undertaken - Men’s Mental Health.

Each and every one of us are aware of, personally know someone or indeed have had to endure poor Mental Health at some stage during life with some coming through these stages less fortunately than others. No different than the endurance stages being undertaken by our cycling team, whom without the support of our backup crew, would have no choice but to go it alone. When it comes to Men’s Mental Health nobody should ever have to go it alone and it’s our responsibility to ensure when needed that their backup crew are there. This backup crew however can’t be made up simply of bike mechanics for the mechanics of mental health stress are far more reaching and intricate than oiling up a squeaking chain or fixing a slow puncture.

So, as a team we are looking to support a group of specialist individuals who when asked to can reach out to those who need it most, when they need it most - and we need your help. To do this our collective aim is to raise funds towards Pieta House to enable them to continue to do the works they do so well around mental health awareness, suicidal distress, self-harm and suicidal bereavement.

Your support for this fantastic cause would be very much apricated. Together, when it comes to Men’s Mental Health - let’s make sure no one ever has to go it alone.
