Dual strabismus surgery

From the age of around 2, my vision has always been poor due to a muscle disorder called alternating strabismus. My brain favored one eye over the other, causing the unused eye to weaken. Thankfully I had learned to ‘swap’ focus in my eyes, retaining the connection to both. Though I am monocular visioned, I’ve been able to get by up to this point with little trouble, until the past year or so.

Glasses and corrective lenses have helped me through life but strain headaches always followed me in every activity. I lack depth perception and in the past few years I’ve noticed my vision is diminishing in both eyes slowly.

This surgery is a neccesary first step in restoring vision in both eyes, focusing specifically on the muscles that surround them. Once both eyes are aligned and are functioning together, a second surgery called PRK surgery becomes available. Until then, I’m denied as a candidate.

This surgery is scheduled for November 17. The funds listed above are to help cover the surgery, vision therapy, and antibiotics. Any excess cash I plan to donate to a local no kill shelter called Motor City Ferrets (you can find their website here:

I generally don’t like reaching out for help like this. The surgery date was scheduled much sooner than I expected and it didn’t leave me with any options. Any help, even a passing of word of this fundraiser, is immensely appreciated.




After the surgery I will be uploading progress shots! I’m absolutely terrified of this surgery since almost everything I do requires sharp eyesight. I’ve been comforted knowing I have a loving husband, family, and friends here to help while I’m down and out.
