Help Basant Home

My name is Neerala Tiwary and I am writing on behalf of my younger brother, Basant Tiwary.  He was diagnosed at 17 with Desmoplastic Small Round Blue Cell Tumor.  You may read about the details of his initial diagnosis at https://sites.google.com/site/bfrca7/basant-s-story.  He has been battling cancer for 3 years: 4 hospitals, almost 30 rounds of chemotherapy, 1 round of radiation therapy, and 4 surgeries so far.

We brought Basant to Memorial Sloan-Kettering Hospital in New York for further treatment in May, but his second major surgery was unsuccessful.  We have been staying at the Ronald McDonald House ever since.  The doctors have told us that there is nothing more they can do, but to keep him comfortable.  They want to discharge him and continue with home-care.  We cannot stay at the Ronald McDonald House for this type of care and will have to find a place of residence in New York or return to Orlando, Florida.  I know Basant still has a lot of fight left in him as he has stated he wants to try herbal medicine next.  I think he can beat this if he is in his own territory and on his own turf:  at home, in his room, on his bed; but getting him there seems like a far dream.  We attempted to return to Orlando three weeks ago, but his pain was so severe that we had to rush him to the hospital the morning of the flight.  He has been in the hospital ever since.

Basant will need to be flown home privately on a medical flight as it is a struggle for him to sit for long periods of time and due to extreme fluctuation in pain onset.  He will have to be on oxygen however, the hospital nor the insurance can find a company willing to loan him an oxygen tank.  He will also need a wheelchair and a pole for his IV pain control medications.  Basant has had more than one near-death experience in the hospital which is why my parents left their jobs to care for him while he is in New York.  For that reason, we are behind on our payments for our rental home.  Currently, there is no running water or electricity and are no groceries at home.

We all appreciate any form of support that you are able to offer.  Thank you for your continued love, support, and prayers.  May God bless you.
