Curt’s medical expenses

Donation protected
My family has known the Stene family since the early 70’s when Julie and I were in 7th grade together. We have remained very close through the years, and our hearts are broken seeing this wonderful man, and his sweet family go through this extremely difficult time. Please keep them in your thoughts and prayers, and donate to assist them with their medical needs if you’re able. Thank you!

Curt fell outside of his residence about a week ago, and experienced major trauma to both arms. As a result of the fall, he sustained a complete fracture to his right arm, breaking the Humerus head completely off, requiring total reconstructive surgery to his right arm. His left Humerus fractured as well and Doctors have delayed surgical repair pending the outcome of physical therapy.

During Curt’s visit to the ER and subsequent stay in the hospital, a blood test revealed that his Troponin levels were elevated and he was immediately transferred to the cardiac Catheterization lab for additional testing. Heart tests showed extensive blockage on at least 3 of his major arteries so Curt underwent surgery to clear the blockage by placing 2 stents. Due to his weak condition, they chose to place the stents in rather than doing a heart by-pass surgery. When doctors spoke to the family after the Catheterization surgery they stated the blockage to his heart was far more severe than their initial prognosis and his heart was hanging on by a thread. If Curt had been discharged to Therapy as they originally planned, the outcome would likely have been fatal.

Since the time of his surgery, Curt has suffered multiple strokes, which has diminished his ability to speak, and resulted in temporary limb paralysis. He is currently in ICU, and doctors continue to monitor him closely.

Presuming Curt is able to recover from the trauma he will face several months of extensive physical rehabilitation and therapy, and the process is expected to be intense and grueling. The medical expenses Curt and Darla will incur as a result of the long hospital stay, surgeries, and treatments will be beyond their means.
