DSST is an open-enrollment STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math) charter school with a student population of 70% minority students and 50% low income students. We recruit and welcome robotics team members from all backgrounds and at all levels of experience.
Each year we participate in the FIRST Robotics Competition (www.usfirst.org). We’ve been building our standings over the past years: notably earning a 3rd place Game Award and 4th for the BEST Award in the 2016 Rocky Mountain BEST competition and placing in the top eleven out of 50 teams in the 2016 and 2017 FIRST competitions. With your help, we will build on our momentum and go even further in these competitions! The highlight of our 2017 season was when Brute Force was invited to compete in the FRC Championship in Houston, TX. We competed against 421 teams from around the world, and it was an incredible learning experience for all!
The majority of our funding for materials and supplies comes from donations, grants and sponsorships from our community. In order to cover the costs of building our robot and travelling to competitions, we have a fundraising goal of $55,000. If we meet or exceed this goal, we also plan to cultivate the growing national interest in high school robotics by mentoring a new team and helping them enter one of the competitions. Everything adds up and any amount helps!
