More Than A Dream

‌Have you ever felt like you were in a position where you're walking along the edge  and you're close to falling, but a part of you wants to take the leap? Despite the fear of falling you will never know if you will plummet to the ground or fly if you never take the leap.

My name is Brehonna Brehon.
I believe now more than ever that certain people are meant to come into our lives, and some are not meant to stay.  Yet, regardless if they stay in our lives the time they were there is a part of our journey, and it can have the greatest impact on our destination.

The opportunities I have had and earned throughout these four years of my life in high school have changed my life for the better. At Baltimore Design School I have created endless bonds and made friends that have become family. I have experienced loss that has geared me to finding my purpose in life.
I have met people that I will never forget, made connections and gone places that I never imagined myself going. From Girls Garage, a design and building program in California, to working with professional designers for the national Free Minds, Free People Conference, and working as a Page for the Maryland General Assembly. I have sung at Maryland Public TV's Women's Leadership Conference, with the Destiny Road choir at the Families Belong Together march in Washington D.C., and am now blessed with simply having options as to where I will acquire a higher education. All of the experiences I have had have contributed to who I am today.

I applied to roughly 23 colleges, and was accepted into all but two. I believe they weren't ready for me, and all that I plan to do in life. Considering my interest in art, passion for music, desire for change, I want to use the arts and my gifts to bridge cultural, generational, and societal gaps.

On March 30th, 2018 I received my acceptance to Berklee College of Music as vocalist for the Fall of 2018. My only hesitation  came down to the finances.

The total cost of going to Berklee is approximately $60,000 a year in total costs. It was brought to my attention and became reality that I can go to Boston, Massachusetts and pursue my dreams at Berklee. One of my teachers helped me see that Berklee was an option and that I should pursue my dreams. No one is living my life but me. It was only till I began to believe my dream school was an option did reality hit, and it came down to the fact that I had a full tuition deposit of $1,000  for Fall of 2018. In addition, a $500 housing deposit. This deposit had to be paid by May 1st to secure housing and overall my spot at Berklee.

My mind was saying stay in Baltimore and wait on it. However, my heart was telling me to go, I've waited my whole life. I can and will give it my all at Berklee, because if I don't take the risk or rather heed of this opportunity, I'll never know where it may take me.

I anticipated on jumping right into the decision of going to Berklee. Considering that, even though I surpassed my goal there is still a process that comes along with transferring the money to Berklee. The money would not have been transferred to the College by the deadline of May 1st. As I continue my journey, I am approaching it from a different angle. Yet, remaining faithful to the same goal. I take with me all of your support.

My plan is to finish my fall semester at an In- State university during the fall of 2018. Taking with me the newly found option, being that I can apply for the Fall of 2019 at Berklee College of Music without having to re-audition. I will begin to get my prerequisites out of the way this fall and spring. I will put all of my focus and energy into saving and preparing as much as possible for when I start at Berklee this coming Fall of 2019.

Everyone who has donated and supported me thus far, I can not express how blessed and appreciative I am of you. Your contributions have gone toward making the impossible seem much more possible. I have surpassed my goal of $1,500!
