This last week of April was a roller coaster of emotions.

Dustin's successful surgery was on Friday, April 26th. While waiting for Dustin's liver pathology report, Jen & Dustin's dog Roxanne fell extremely ill with kidney failure. After following the standard care, unfortunately Roxy had to be put down because her numbers were not improving.

Rox was still in pain and her prognosis only indicated a short term extension of her life. Her quality of life would have dramatically dropped upon leaving the animal hospital.
- The emotional toll is bad whenever you lose a pet.
- The financial implications require quick decisions and the
desire not to put a dollar value on your pet's life, measured
against prognosis and quality of life.
- We spent $3,200 for her care in the past 72 hours as we
received emergency care to stabilize her condition, diagnosis (ultrasound, X-Rays), blood panels to check progress, and updated prognosis.

UPDATE POST-OP RECOVERY & PATHOLOGY REPORT
- Pathology report came back BENIGN
-Ciliated Hepatic Foregut Cyst, only 104 known cases.

Any donations are greatly welcomed as Dustin is not currently employed and will not be able to consult or interview in earnest while recovering.

Luckily they do have insurance, but the ancillary costs keep climbing! Every little bit helps them for pre and post surgical care.

DIAGNOSIS
UPDATED: Ciliated Hepatic Foregut Cyst, only 104 known cases.

ORIGINAL: Biliary cystadenoma (a very rare complex cyst/tumor) sized 6cm.

UPDATE: PATHOLOGY REPORT CLEAR OF CANCER...BENIGN

âˆš Preoperatively, cancer is unknown. There is difficulty in differentiating a benign from a malignant biliary cystadenoma (pathology exam required).

UPDATE!!!!!!! TREATMENT
âˆš Standard treatment is removal of the 6cm cyst/tumor which may include partial liver removal (Hepatic resection - See Below)

Dr. Flavio Rocha and team at Virginia Mason Hospital in Seattle, WA performed the procedure laparoscopically.

Original surgery called for a"˜keyhole' procedure, where an extra opening is made so the surgeon can place their hand, as well as the surgical instruments, into the abdomen and carry out some of the procedure in this way. THIS WAS NOT NEEDED!!!

Surgery went very well. They were able to remove the cystadenoma 100% laparoscopically. The cyst was sitting on top of the liver, so not much liver tissue needed to be removed.

Pathology reports SHOW BENIGN MASS. Several Follow-up visits are scheduled. We are hoping for a speedy recovery! Thank you for all of your love and prayers!

Dustin's tumor was located in Section IVA (Section IV, Upper left towards top center of liver, right below the heart) The Doctors were able to do this without having to take much liver tissue.
