Donna's Accident Recovery Fund

On Wednesday, December 10, 2014 my life instantly changed when I was hit head on while on the way to work. I sustained an open double compound fracture to my left ankle and shattered the top of my left tibia at the knee. Of course, my car was totaled and I am blessed to be here sharing my story. I had surgery the day of the accident to add temporary rods to stablize my ankle and tibia until the swelling could go down enough to have plates and screws added to both locations.  I received the six hour surgery on Christmas Eve and am taking a day at a time. I will be non-weight baring on the left leg for about 3 months and total rehabilitation can take up to 1 year. About 7 weeks prior to the accident, I began a great new job but unfortunately, the accident happened 8 days prior to my eligibility to receive Short Term Disability.  On a side note, I purchased my first home at the end of May.

So, family, friends and loved ones, I must reach out to all of you for help to keep my home while I am out of work, as well as help with everyday living expenses, and help with the various medical and insurance expenses. My boss had a plan to set me up to work from home once I can cut back on the heavy duty pain pills, but because I work in the field of cancer research, it is very difficult to set that up due to privacy and hipaa laws.  Basically, she was turned down. There is a possibility I could be out of work for another 3 to 4 months.
