FUND RAISING FOR REFURBISHMENT OF A SHED AT THE CLUB HOUSE TO STORE BOATS

In 2021, the 20th anniversary of DSAC, we are having a fund raising campaign to support the refurbishment of storage facilities for club boats and other essential safety equipment to enable more effective and safe searches.

DSAC SEARCH & RESCUE (SAR) UNIT

Dundalk Sub Aqua Club was founded in 2001, followed by the Search & Rescue (SAR) unit in 2003 and is operated by local volunteers to serve the community, with 25 highly trained volunteer SAR divers responding 24 - 7 to calls for  missing persons, from rivers, lakes, harbours and coastal waters.
The SAR unit collaborate with the Gardaí, Coast Guard, RNLI, Civil Defence and PSNI to provide significant levels of support to searches in the North East on both sides of the border, and where necessary nationwide.

FUNDRAISING
DSAC traditionally hold an annual bucket collection on the streets of Dundalk on New Years Eve, due to COVID, we are unable to hold the annual bucket collection this year.
Funds raised are essential to the SAR Unit, and are used to maintain and upgrade SAR diving, navigation, compressor and medical first responder equipment to aid efficient searches and ensure the safety of SAR volunteers.
DSAC receives no state funding, the club is entirely reliant on self funding, donations and fundraising to maintain SAR equipment and operations. The unit would not be operating without the generosity of those who donated to this worthy cause through the years.
We are so grateful for each and every donation to this cause, the operation of this unit depends on the generosity of people, we are forever grateful for the ungoing support demonstrated year after year.

Our newest boat, delivered in August 2019 was part-funded by the generosity of the people of Dundalk in previous years' bucket collections. This boat has already been used in a number of extensive search & recovery operations in the waterways around Co. Louth.

In 2021, the 20th anniversary of DSAC, we are launching a fund raising campaign to support the refurbishment of storage facilities for club boats and other essential safety equipment to enable more effective and safe searches.
- A large shed on the grounds of DSAC clubhouse on Quay Street is in a very dangerous state of repair, without covered storage facitilites, the club ribs (rigid-inflatable boats) are at the mercy of the weather which reduces their lifespan and increases maintenance costs.
- The existing air compressor has been used since the club was established in 2001! It is no longer cost effective to service this essential piece of equipment and urgently needs to be replaced.
- SAR diving and navigation equipment is essential to the safety of volunteers, and must be serviced annually at significant cost to the club.
