DSA Funds for a JUST Rezoning

The Inwood community groups which have been fiercely fighting the city for a year to demand a better rezoning are gathering for a final stand in the weeks before the city council vote. The block party on July 28 aims to be a manifestation of the community that could exist if the city made space for it in its plans. There will be performers, food, art-making, and protest.
Why a block party?
1) It is a way to organize and agitate the local community, and to bring people together in a celebratory, inclusive way.
2) It is a way to put public pressure on Council Member Ydanis Rodriguez in his district, in a way that shows the dominant opinion of his constituents.
3) Community organizers around land use are often portrayed as vocal special interest groups who are only pretending to represent everyone, so we are having a block party with people of every age, race, class, etc. to demonstrate to our elected officials, the media, etc., the breadth and depth of the opposition.
Throwing a big block party costs a lot of money! Northern Manhattan is Not 4 Sale is seeking sponsorship from allied groups. Inwood is populated mostly by working-class community groups which can only donate modest amounts.
DSA has a chance to show real allyship by reaching across our networks and making a big contribution to support the party!
