A Black Mans Injustice

Donation protected
Hi everyone, my family and I are asking for your support.  My nephew, a former Detroit Police Officer was wrongfully accused and unjustly convicted of providing  sensitive law enforcement information to drug traffickers.  He had 25 years of service on the police force and had an exceptional career record that included accolades for community service. He was months away from making Sergeant.

My nephew refused to take a plea and as a result was sentenced to 18 years in prison on one count with having no prior arrests. The judge ignored more than 200 character witness letters from his church, colleagues and friends.  He made it a point to say that he was making an example of my nephew in his ruling because my nephew refused to take a plea and had cost the state money to take this case to trial.

The other  13 co-conspirators related to this drug trafficking case were all sentenced to no more than 5 years jail, and one sentenced to just a single day. This judge is also the same one who sentenced another young black man to 116 years in prison for his part in cell phone store robberies. That case is headed to the Supreme Court.

A jury believed they had enough evidence (recorded phone calls) to find my nephew guilty and while we disagree, it is the enormity of the punishment that is the most devastating.

My nephew is a good and faithful man, and had just been consecrated as a Minister of The Gospel, and even since his incarceration, he has continued to serve God fervently, to minister still.

We are graciously asking for donations to help with my nephew’s appeal in March, as legal fees are astounding.  The friends and family helping with this appeal have been a blessing.

Our prayer is that in March, this judge might have a different outlook on this most egregious sentence for a first time, non-violent offender more so, that new evidence will have the sentence reversed. Thank you in advance for any and all support, please know that it is greatly appreciated.
