Ballew's emergency surgery

Ballew woke me up about 4:30 this morning needing to go outside and vomit. A LOT of vomit. I took him to the vet as soon as I could, and he's been there under observation all day. And the news isn't great.
Turns out Ballew has bloat, which can cause the stomach to twist, and is a life-threatening condition. The vet *thinks* that his stomach is still in a normal position, which is good news, but there's some other worrisome things going on there. Ballew is going into surgery as I type.
Best case scenario: They're able to use a tube to clear out his stomach, and he can stay at the vet's tonight. Not the best scenario: They have to fully open him and do a gastropexy, which would prevent stomach torsion in the future. (The stomach torsion is the life-threatening part of bloat.) If that's the case, he'll need to spend the night at the vet ER so he can be closely observed.
I asked pretty much every person I know for money less than a year ago, and I figure you only get to take advantage of people's good graces (and good money) once. But I'm asking again, because the best case scenario is likely to run $3,500. If he has to spend a night in the ER, that's easily an additional $500 - $1,000. My only other option is euthanasia, and given that this could be a fixable problem (and preventable in the future, if they do the gastropexy), I'm having a hard time wrapping my head around that as an option.
