Drew's Crew Book Drive

Drew's Crew for Kids is a nonprofit organization started by two Waukee parents in memory of their late son, Andrew. Andrew ("Drew") was born stillborn and his parents wanted a way to honor his memory. Because they were blessed with opportunities to watch their two older sons partake in extracurricular activities and had looked forward to watching Drew participate in those activities as well, they decided to find a way to give Drew's childhood to other kids. Drew's Crew for Kids' mission is to facilitate access to enrichment activities for local youth in need. Their vision is to bridge the activity gap that prevents all kids from having the same access to the same activities.

One aspect of Drew's Crew's giving campaign is in the area of literacy. Before winter and summer school breaks they make sure the most vulnerable students in elementary and middle school have new books to read while school is not in session. They recently gave out over 200 new books to kids prior to winter break and this has completely cleaned out their supply.

They need our help! 

Through this book drive, I am raising funds to help supply the Drew's Crew team with new books that they can use to provide to kids in need. By utilizing Usborne Books and More's Literacy for a Lifetime program, any donation is matched by 50%. That means a $20 donation would provide $30 in books or a $100 donation would provide $150 in books! I am hoping to raise $1000 in donations, which would allow for $1500 in brand new books to be purchased for this amazing cause.

As a teacher, this is something that is very close to my heart. I have seen the effects that a lack of books can cause and I know the importance of keeping quality books in kids' hands while they are not in school.
