My name is Paige Anderson. I recently graduated from the University of Minnesota with a degree in applied economics and a minor in sustainability. I have been searching for a job that will allow me to use my passion for sustainability and my skills and knowledge in economics to help people. During this search I found my dream position, an environmental economist.
People in this position do research on environmental problems that affect human health and use the data they find to help change the policy in that area to put better protections in place.
I have an incredible opportunity to be an environmental economist intern with the United Nations in Nairobi, Kenya. One of my projects while I'm there will be to study the effects of pollution on human health and the environment and help to change policy in Kenya to protect the people who live, work and play there. This internship is a dream come true. I'd be doing what I love while working for an amazing, reputable organization.
Unfortunately this is an unpaid position. I can't afford it on my own.
What I need: I need 6 months of living expenses as well as airfare to get there and come back home. I need about $12,000. If all goes well, I will be doing two rounds of funding.
What I'm doing: My start date for this position is October 1st. Until then I will be working 2-3 jobs and saving as much money as I can. I'm cutting my costs while abroad by trading volunteer hours for lodging and cultural exchange. I am also reaching out to corporate sponsors to help meet my goal.
Thank you for helping me achieve my dreams. Your contribution means the world to me. -Paige
