A 10-day Trip to Italy and Greece - DREAM Come True for Bronx Scholars!

My students are passionate learners with a lot of energy. They are friendly and compassionate. They love to learn new languages, make new friends, discuss and take action on current community issues, explore a healthy diet, and experience new places.  Most of them live in the Bronx and come from diverse low-income families. We are Title 1 school, which means that all students receive free breakfast and lunch. Even though my students' families experience some emotional and economic hardships, they still persevere and believe that education and experience will help them to live a better life.

At my school, students are at the center of everything we do. My school honors and celebrates every student by providing the support necessary for each of them to develop a personal vision for their future. We do this not only through classroom education but also through experience out of the school. My school provided over 50 field trips in and around New York City last school year. For most of my students, these field trips were the only times they left the Bronx. Since we know about difficult economic situations in most of our students' families and want to guarantee equity for all students, 95% of the field trips are free of charge.
Now, we want our students to experience a culture shock. We would love to take them to Italy and Greece, two countries that speak entirely different languages and have one of the richest histories in the world.   We believe that exposure to travel abroad, meeting other students, experiencing different cultures, and have a taste of independence will make our students well-rounded scholars.  We partner with EF Educational Tours to make our abroad travel possible.

What will our students experience on a 10-day trip to Italy and Greece?

They will spend three days in Rome visiting Sistine Chapel, St. Peter's Basilica, Catacombs, Colosseum, Roman Forum, and more. They will transfer to Florence, the birthplace of the Italian language and opera, where they will spend two days. On the sixth evening of the tour, they will take an overnight ferry to Igoumenitsa, the capital and largest city of northwestern Greece. After a day in Igoumenitsa, they will transfer to Delphi and then Athens, where they will explore Temple of Apollo, Temple of Olympian Zeus, Acropolis, and more.

All money raised will be sent to EF Tours to reduce the cost for each student.
