So finding themselves at an impasse, they struck a compromise.
"Ok darling", said Maui, loving husband of cancer ambassador Beth Whaanga.
"But they're not going to die in vain! If you can raise $10,000 in donations to complete this amazing book, Under the Red Dress, I'll consider it a worthy sacrifice...I'll let you cut them off".
"Well then!", said Beth
"We've photographed almost half of our volunteers, they've borne their cancer scars and told their stories for our awareness raising book, we need to finish the job! ...........You have a deal."

In February 2014 Beth Whaanga and photographer Nadia Masot set out to create an awareness raising book called 'Under the Red Dress'. The book aims to not only raise awareness for cancer and the importance of early detection, but to lift the lid on the reality of what cancer can do to one's body.

The book aims to compare and contrast images of each person they include in the book (50 cancer survivors) with what the world sees and what has happened behind the scenes in their life and to their bodies.....what hides Under the Red Dress. In this way they hope to help people who bare the grevious bodily scars of cancer to find self acceptance, assist in the anti-body-shaming revolution and banish disease taboos.
Because scars aren't ugly, they mean you're alive.

Where will the funding go?
1. To travel related expenses to photograph and obtain the imagery our volunteer contributors who have had cancer and want to bear their scars in Australia, New Zealand, USA, Canada & Europe.
2. To publication and production costs of producing a coffee table style book.
