Dreadlocks for Dementia

Donation protected
My grandfather had dementia for 2 years before his untimely death which effected his life and our entire family. To raise funds for the Dementia Research Foundation I have decided to cut my dreadlocks off after having them for 11 years.

For my grandfather, having dementia meant that he didn't recognise his loved ones. It was a very confusing time for him that lead to agressive feelings that were never a part of his original personality.  Watching him go through this was very difficult for us all as he had always been such a kind and gentle person.

Dementia effects everybody in different ways. 1 in 4 people over the age of 85 have dementia; it is the second leading cause of death in Australians.

In Australia there are more than 413,106 Australians living with dementia. Without a medical breakthrough, the number of people with dementia is expected to reach 1,100,890 by 2056.

I hope that whatever contribution I can help fundraise may make a difference and lead to research that will help people and families going through the same situation our family did.
