<div>Begin jaren 90 is het initiatief ontstaan om de Gerbrandytoren in IJsselstein om te toveren tot De Grootste Kerstboom van Nederland en in 1992 lukte het daadwerkelijk om de lampjes voor de eerste keer te ontsteken. Sindsdien is De Grootste Kerstboom uitgegroeid tot een zeer markant herkenningspunt van IJsselstein, de regio en zelfs landelijk. De ontsteking van De Grootste Kerstboom is een traditie geworden waar al een hele generatie mee is opgegroeid. Vele donateurs, vrienden, sponsors en vrijwilligers dragen al jaren bij om dit ieder jaar voor weer voor elkaar te krijgen.

<div>Voor veel mensen is De Grootste Kerstboom ieder jaar weer een lichtpuntje in de donkere periode rond Kerstmis. Dit willen we graag blijven voortzetten.

<div>Ieder jaar wordt het echter lastiger om het noodzakelijke budget op te halen om De Grootste Kerstboom weer te laten branden. Mede omdat noodzakelijke grotere investeringen ook nodig zijn, zoals verlichtingskabels, staalkabels e.d. om blijvend veilig en duurzaam De Grootste Kerstboom te laten branden en stralen.
