Dr. Who’s Medical and Training Fund

Dr. Who has been on the lookout for his forever companions for over 3 years now and everyone asks, HOW is he STILL looking for a home?

Doc was set to be euthanized at the county shelter in December of 2017, he was deteriorating quickly in the shelter environment. We saved him just in the nick of time, 3 days before Christmas. Then, we didn’t know how awful his allergies would become once spring hit here in Arizona. Doc was forced to stay home, becoming a master of self isolation, as his allergies destroyed his fur coat (pictures below, viewer discretion advised).

While that extended period of isolation may have been good preparation for 2020, living almost exclusively indoors for over a year caused his leash manners and outside behavior to deteriorate.

Thankfully, a local nonprofit called Creative Contributions offered to cover the cost of Doc’s medical care to help find him some relief. For the next two years, they spent THOUSANDS of dollars trying to find him lasting relief. We would never have been able to save Doc if it weren’t for their help.

Finally, after working with Dermatology for Animals in Gilbert, AZ, we discovered that out of 70 outdoor allergens, Doc was allergic to 65 of them. With the dermatologist, Doc was able to begin a recovery that we’d all but lost hope for.

Today, Doc is thriving and beginning to work on some of his bad leash manners. Unfortunately, the solution to his allergies is a little costly. On top of the normal every day cost it takes to care for your average furry friend, Doc needs a custom immunotherapy serum by a dermatologist that costs about $800 every 12-16 months, but gives him the chance to enjoy the outdoors like any other dog.

That ongoing cost and the cost of some initial training he will need with his new family has been his biggest barrier to being adopted.

So, we’ve decided to break down that barrier by raising $4000 for his future family. Whatever funds we raise will be kept in a fund to be paid directly to a veterinary dermatologist to help with the costs of his medical care over the course of the next few years. If we raise enough, some money may also be allocated to a trainer in order to help set his family up for the greatest success.
