Dr. Thylacine’s Hall of Cryptids Puppets

Rather Irregular Productions is the collaboration between two longtime friends, Mark S. Smith and Craig Isley, both from Clanton, AL. They have shared the love for the art of puppetry, and the topic of myths, creatures, and legends such as Bigfoot and river monsters for more than 40 years.

In 2019, in collaboration with the Central Alabama Performing Arts Guild, Rather Irregular Productions featuring the Scrapbag Puppets, produced their first Halloween Puppet Play (combining puppets and live actors), Dr. Thylacine's Hall Of Cryptids, which took place at the Clanton Public Library. The production united a community of actors of all ages. In 2020, due to the Covid-19 pandemic, for their next project, there was no other option than collaborating remotely. While Craig Isley and his unit worked in Clanton, AL, Mark Smith and his artists worked in Atlanta, GA. Mark’s crew is composed almost entirely from his former students, a group of gifted Art Institute Atlanta graduates.

Since their 2019 puppet play, Rather Irregular Productions and the Scrapbag Puppets have produced the Hall of Cryptids videos “Dr. Thylacine’s Quarantined Cryptids” and “Cryptozoology Case Files: Yeti History by Freddie Yeti” which have over 3000 views online. Their goal is to entertain and educate with regular video releases featuring their unique combination of family-friendly puppets, comedy, animation, and cryptids (creatures commonly believed to exist, but considered as mere legends by science). Recently, they did have their television debut with the AIB (Atlanta Interfaith Broadcasting) Network, which ran Dr. Thylacine's Halloween Of Cryptids a TV special, from October 27 to 31.

For the last 2 years, Rather Irregular Productions have self-financed their own productions. But as many of you can imagine, this continued creative effort requires a financial support to compensate the talented collaborators, such as background artists, puppet makers, video editors, backdrop painters, voice over talent, costume designers, animators, puppeteers, and actors who share the love for the arts.

Therefore I have created this GoFundMe account, so that this group of talented artists can start working on their new 2021 productions. Their shows target audiences of all ages, who, like the artists, share a love for myths, creatures, legends, and moreover, the love for the craft of puppetry and animation.

Help Rather Irregular Productions and the Scrapbag Puppets reach a broader audience. While the world endures these turbulent times caused by the Covid-19 pandemic, your contributions will help support the artists who make Dr. Thylacine's Hall Of Cryptids come to life, propagating his positive outlook of life and empathy for all his extraordinary creature friends.
