Dr. Seneque Philippe

This is an urgent call for financial assistance and prayers.

 Dr. Seneque Philippe is a 55-year old Haitian medical doctor supported by World Harvest for Christ and its subsidiary New Life for Children’s Home for over 30 years. Dr. Philippe has been wholly committed to the extremely impoverished people of the western Grand Anse peninsula in Haiti. He is the only doctor for a populace of 120,000. The poverty is unimaginable and abhorrent. The mountains are rife with disease and there are no modern-day medical facilities. Extreme poverty robs most of a healthy sustainable life in exchange for crippling and life-threatening disease, profound malnutrition and no access to healthcare. Disease is rampant and ubiquitous. The children are very vulnerable. Haiti has the highest mortality rate among children in the Western Hemisphere and infant mortality in these mountains is unbridled. The infant mortality between birth and 5 years of age is as high as 20-30% is some villages. Most of this is due to severe malnutrition and preventable diseases.

Eight weeks ago, Dr. Philippe was walking down steps and had sudden pain in his knee. The pain was so severe he was not able to weight bear. He had x-rays that showed he broke his femur through a tumor that was already weakening his bone. A biopsy has revealed this to be an osteosarcoma cancer. This is a serious cancer that often requires surgical treatment in conjunction with radiation and chemotherapy. The treatment can be lengthy and expensive. The average cost of treating and osteosarcoma in the United States can be as high as $250,000 and $350,000. This type of treatment is not available in Haiti. He needs to be treated in the U.S.

Dr. Philippe’s life is a life that sustains the lives of many, a life that eradicates disease, a life that brings new life and a life that radiates hope where hopelessness is endemic. In order for Dr. Phillipe to continue his work in the mountains it will be necessary for medical intervention of this cancer here in the United States.
