Dear friends:
Most of you know that I have been battling metastatic sarcoma for just over two years. Despite my best efforts to beat this thing, my fight is unfortunately nearing its end. The cancer has spread to a point where I have decided to stop treatments aside from enrolling in a Phase I clinical trial that might provide me a few extra months of life with little toxicity. My primary focus will now be on my family. I do plan to maintain a presence at BCM once my kids return to school following summer break, though it is unclear how much time I have left to wind things down in lab.
I feel strongly that I have received far many more blessings from having cancer than negatives. One such blessing is the tremendous support and prayers received from so many of you in the DMHG and throughout BCM. It is this support from you and others that has enabled me to get this far in my journey with cancer. I also want to thank the DMHG administration and those with whom I have collaborated over the years, as well as those with whom I have served on committees and in all other capacities. You have collectively created a home for me at BCM where I was able to build the career of my dreams.
I have maintained a blog on the CarePages website where I have openly detailed my journey with cancer, faith and ultimately my complete peace with this outcome. I included information below on how to access the blog if you are interested in following my progress.
