Dr. F. Maunganidze Medical Assistance

Donation protected
Dr. Farai Maunganidze is a senior lecturer at the Great Zimbabwe University in Zimbabwe. He is a married man and a father of three girls.

In September 2019, he was diagnosed with colorectal cancer. He was referred for chemo-radiation therapy but the radiotherapy machine at Parirenyatwa Hospital (the largest medical centre in Zimbabwe) was broken. Therefore, his only chance was private healthcare, however the estimated costs were around £2,500. This amount was completely beyond his reach given the prevailing economic conditions in Zimbabwe.

Within that context, he gave up. This was, until his postdoctoral mentor Professor Debby Bonnin and another South African colleague, Professor Catherine Burns decided to intervene. They, together with Janet Giddy, a medical practitioner based in South Africa in conjunction with some Zimbabwean medical experts, restarted his medical journey, mobilising for and finding funding for the tests needed.

He has consulted with oncologists and other experts who have given him hope that with wift and comprehensive treatment, his cancer can go into remission. He will need surgery, as well as chemotherapy and radiotherapy. For this, he is seeking financial assistance, and any funds donated will be used solely for this purpose. The chemo and radiotherapy costs are around £4,000 and the surgery costs are approximately £5,500.

We would greatly appreciate donations of any value and all monies raised will be used solely for his medication.
