Mom's Medical expenses

Donation protected
We are Lora Blackwell and Kelly Roman, the daughters of Don and Maureen Babcock.  Don and Maureen celebrated their 51st wedding anniversary February 10th of this year.

On February 14th, early in the morning our mom fell and fractured her femur. Thankfully Dad was home and heard her crying out for him. He was able to get her up and get her to bed to rest. She had been exhibiting some signs of confusion and motor skill impairment consistently over the previous week or 10 days prior to the fall. Dad called her doctor who recommended she get to the ER right away. For those of you who know my mom you know she can be a tad stubborn and refused to go.

The day following the fall, after showing no signs of improvement, our dad called and had her taken to CMMC.

She has been in the hospital for 3 weeks today. Through a series of MRI,s CAT scans, kidney and bone marrow biopsies, tests, evaluations, more tests, and more evaluations, she has been diagnosed with End-Phase Renal Failure, and Multiple Myeloma, a rare non curable blood cancer.

Mom has started dialysis 3 days per week and will need to continued dialysis treatments for the foreseeable future. The chemotherapy/steroid treatment for the cancer will be ongoing and is the only way to manage this type of cancer.

She has been accepted to a rehab facility on a short-term basis to help her regain some motor skill function and provide physical and occupational therapy to ease the transition in getting her home. She can hardly wait to get home to her puppy, Benji…and us, I suppose. : )

Once home, we expect to have to transport her to and from her appointments and dialysis via a wheelchair van until she is able to regain strength to get into and out of a vehicle with only limited assistance.

Lora and I are staring this page because the upcoming out of pocket expenses for moms chemotherapy medication is $2,400 per month and the wheel chair van rental price is approximately $700 per week.

Our family is so grateful for all of the prayers and heartfelt words from our friends and families. We appreciate you taking the time to read our story and are happy to answer any questions.
