A Fighting Chance For Maximus

Please watch our video for max.

As some of you may know, our son Maximus was diagnosed with autism over a year ago just before his second birthday. Since that day, we have been facing the many different ways in which autism affects Maximus.

Currently he is unable to communicate at all, and is therefore completely reliant on us for absolutely everything.

Along with the obvious joy Maximus brings to our lives, the diagnosis and all of the accompanying challenges that come with it, have brought us a lot of heartache. It has however opened our eyes and made us learn a lot about what autism is, and all the work being done to find ways to help affected children.

We have come to understand that there are many avenues to explore in trying to heal, and are doing everything that we possibly can to help Maximus recover. We have discovered that having a child with special needs takes a toll emotionally, physically and financially.

While there are many areas of his life that are difficult, Maximus’ sleeping pattern is possibly the biggest issue. This has been a daily battle for the last two years. While we were aware that having children, meant getting used to disturbed sleep cycles. We were ill prepared for the reality that many families with autistic children experience.

For almost two years Maximus has been waking up during the night and staying up for a minimum of 2 to 5 hours. This is every night. During this time, he is very much awake, and engaging in many different behaviors. These include running around, climbing, throwing stuff, banging on walls, slamming closet doors, laughing, yelling and screaming.

Trying to simply help him get through the night has taken a huge toll on the whole family. In this time, we tried many things like changing up bed time routines, giving him multiple sleep aid supplements and staying in the room with him through the night. However that made it impossible for us to function the next day, when our patience and focus is needed by Maximus and his little sister Reyah.

This made us realize that we had to leave the room at some point and try to sleep. That being said, we now worry for his safety, given the unpredictability of his behaviors at night and his ever increasing functional motor skills. We have been taking precautions and are constantly looking into different options to try and solve this problem.

As we all know, a good nights sleep is one of the most crucial things for proper growth and development of a child. Maximus is not currently getting this.

Recently, we came across the “safety sleeper”. It is an enclosed bed for special needs children designed primarily to keep them safe. It seems to be the perfect solution to deal with Maximus’ sleeping pattern by keeping him in the bed and preventing him from moving around. This will keep him from getting into situations where he could stimulate himself and keep him up for hours during the night.

It will also greatly benefit the whole family by ensuring his safety and security.

As you also may or may not know, there are other issues associated with Autism which can prevent healing. One of the main issues being toxic overload. This includes environmental factors and heavy metals which are capable of attacking the gut and brain.

Through our own research and guidance from medical professionals, we believe that reducing this toxic burden on Maximus' body could be the key to improving his health. These treatments, supplements and products we need to purchase are also costly. They are fully supported treatments that other Autism parents have used to fully recover their children. They are also backed and promoted by medical doctors that work exclusively with Autistic patients.

There is a lot we can do in the hopes of bringing Maximus back and we are seeking your help in the process.

The costs associated with this we simply cannot afford on our own. This is why we are asking friends and family to help us in any way that you can. Please help us give our son the fighting chance we believe he deserves.

Absolutely anything you’d be willing or able to do is greatly appreciated!

Some of you may have seen the letter Rocky wrote to Maximus on his third birthday. He captured what we see in Maximus perfectly. I would like to share this for those who havent seen it here.
