Douglas's Fight!

Melvin Douglas Jackson Jr. was born on November  26, 1964. Even though he was born deaf he never let that stop him from living life to the fullest. At age 6 he went to Austin to attend the Texas School for the Deaf. He completed his education there, and was fully equipped to live a normal life with his disability. Douglas which what everyone calls him loves to be outdoors and love animals especially horses . He has been riding with the Circle L5 riding club for many many years, and is the proud owner of a horse which he loves very much.    On Feb 25th, Douglas went to the Emergency Room because he was in excruciating pain. The doctors immediately starting running the gamete of tests. One by one each condition or infection was ruled out, but Douglas was still in quite a bit of pain, and now was running a fever off and on, and  wasn't getting any better despite antibiotics and meds. On  Friday, March 9th we finally got an answer, however it wasn't the news we expected nor was it news we were prepared for. Douglas was diagnosed with Acute Myeloid Leukemia or AML. It is an aggressive, fast spreading form of leukemia. So our son, bother, uncle and father who is always willing to lend a helping hand was about to enter into the battle of his life. AML is fast spreading and aggressive however is totally curable so on March 9th at 10pm Douglas started his first round of induction chemo which is a continuous drip that will last 24 hours a day for the next 7 days. We as a family are taking turns at the hospital taking care of him as he will be in the hospital for the next 30 days at least. Even with insurance the treatments are costly we are asking for your  donations to assist with treatments, and bills as he will be out of work while continues this fight.
