Space and Science Center in Ogden, UT

Donation protected
In 1990, Ed and Lois Douglas founded the Astro Camp program in Ogden, UT.  Their mission was to create an environment that promoted educational achievement, encouraged goal setting, taught team work skills, and built self esteem by providing unique hands-on learning experiences and positive role models.  They ran the program successfully for 26 years and personally influenced the lives of more than 100,000 students before retiring in 2016.

Now, in an effort to improve the quality of STEM education opportunities in Northern Utah, the Douglases are at it again! Ed and Lois are working with Ogden City and engineers and educators in the community to bring a Space and Science Center to Weber County! The Center will be open to all, specifically serving the communities of Davis, Weber, Morgan, Box Elder, and Cache Counties.

The Science Center will include interactive STEM exhibits and maker spaces for elementary aged students that are open to the public. It will host programs and camps designed to encourage education, goal setting, team work, and self esteem through hands-on, authentic learning experiences.

In order to make the Douglas Science Center a reality, we need your help! We need to acquire non-profit status before we can move forward to the next step. There are some fees associated with starting a 501 c 3 organization, such as:

State and Federal filing fees ~ $800
The Foundation Group consulting fees - $3,000
(The Foundation Group will help us cross the t's and dot the i's to make sure we're approved by the IRS and can hit the ground running.)

At the moment, donations made to this Go Fund Me project are not tax deductible. Once 501c3 status has been acquired, all funds will be moved to the Science Center accounts and information will be shared concerning future tax deductible contributions. Funds raised in excess of the $3800 target will be held in reserve and applied toward the Science Center start up costs.

Thank you for your continued support of STEM education in Utah! We are excited to make this Space and Science Center a reality in Northern Utah!
