On June 30, 2025, DeAnn Nordberg lost her husband, Doug—the love of her life and her partner of 49 years. They met when they were just 20 and together, they built a life that was anything but quiet--filled with kids and grandkids, a lot of commotion and a whole lot of love!

Now, in the midst of unimaginable grief, Mom is facing the unthinkable: financial hardship with no income, all while trying to navigate a mountain of paperwork and delays that have kept her from accessing the support she’s entitled to. Dad had no life insurance.

Dad was a disabled veteran who received military retirement, Social Security, and VA benefits. But none of that has been transferred to Mom because she’s still waiting on the coroner’s office to issue his death certificate. It’s been over five weeks, and without that one document, everything is frozen.

Meanwhile, the bills haven’t stopped.

She’s still responsible for:

• The mortgage

• Utilities

• Her car payment

• Food and essentials

• And $3,000 in funeral expenses, just to honor Dad properly.

She is trying to sell her house and downsize, but that takes time—and she is forced into survival mode while still mourning the man she spent her life with.
