Double Lung Transpant Medical Costs

Please help my dear niece, Ellen Rice (Rust), as she faces life-saving surgery, a double lung translant. Following is Ellen’s story.

Hi, my name is Ellen. Three years ago I contracted an environmental, bacterial infection known as MAC (MicrobacteriumAviumComplex), found in food, soil, dust and water.

This diagnosis has meant being on oxygen for the last year and a half, as the disease has progressed and taken away the ability to breathe on my own.After hundreds of tests, multiple medications and trips to Strong Hospital, NY Presbyterian Hospital and Cleveland Clinic, I am finally on the list for a double lung transplant at Cleveland Clinic.

The transplant will take place whenever there is a matching donor; I will receive the ‘call’; following the surgery and approximate month long hospital stay, I will be staying 3 months in Cleveland for continued monitoring and care. Upon release to home, there will be monthly trips to Cleveland Clinic for follow-up.

I am thankful for this life-saving opportunity and, hopefully, to once again experience the life I love. Please share.
