Please help my dear niece, Ellen Rice (Rust), as she faces life-saving surgery, a double lung translant. Following is Ellen’s story.
Hi, my name is Ellen. Three years ago I contracted an environmental, bacterial infection known as MAC (MicrobacteriumAviumComplex), found in food, soil, dust and water.
This diagnosis has meant being on oxygen for the last year and a half, as the disease has progressed and taken away the ability to breathe on my own. After hundreds of tests, multiple medications and trips to Strong Hospital, NY Presbyterian Hospital and Cleveland Clinic, I am finally on the list for a double lung transplant at Cleveland Clinic.
The transplant will take place whenever there is a matching donor; I will receive the ‘call’; following the surgery and approximate month long hospital stay, I will be staying 3 months in Cleveland for continued monitoring and care. Upon release to home, there will be monthly trips to Cleveland Clinic for follow-up.
I am thankful for this life-saving opportunity and, hopefully, to once again experience the life I love. Please share.
