Dot - Menstruation Kits for Girls

We are Dot! A grassroots initiative started by three social work students from the University of Waterloo. We are passionate about women's rights and believe that everyone should have access to menstrual education and products!
We recently participated in an international learning experience that took us to Mexico. Here we had the opportunity to connect with an amazing women's rights organization called Divulvadoras. They are a non-profit organization in Mexico comprised of a group of young people who seek to contribute to the building of a society that exercises and respects the human rights of women and young people.
Through our experience, we found there was a need to provide young girls in Mexico with information and resources regarding puberty and menstruation. We found out that menstruation is a taboo subject that is not socially acceptable to discuss or ask questions about. Shockingly, only 20% of mothers take the time to discuss these essential topics with their daughters. In addition to the lack of sexual education in schools, girls are not receiving the appropriate information and products about such a normal and biological process.
We are fundraising to create educational and resource kits that will be sent over to Dilvulvadoras to distribute in schools. These kits will feature information booklets about menstruation, puberty and frequently asked questions on these topics. The kits will also include a tampon, a pad, a liner and a reusable pad, with instructions for how to use each.
We invite you to be apart of this important initiative in the hopes of empowering young girls by providing education and resources.
