Dorrie's Stroke Recovery

Donation protected
On Tuesday the 6th of March, 2018, Dorrie, beloved mother, grandmother, great grandmother sister and our friend (affectionately known as ‘Ma’) suffered a major stroke coupled with a severe bleed on the brain.  Sadly, this has left her with little to no movement on the right side of her body and the inability to talk and swallow.  On top of this, she has also grappled with fluctuating blood sugar which has complicated her treatment but thankfully, this has since become more manageable.  Due to Ma’s inability to move and sit up unassisted, she has developed bed sores and a chest infection but is responding well to antibiotics.

The Doctors are still unsure of the full extent of the damage, but are hopeful that Dorrie/Ma will regain some use of the right side of her body and some ability to communicate through speech again and the physio and speech therapists have been making regular visits to give her the best shot that they can.  Once her health has been stabilised, she will relocate to a rehabilitation centre in the near future

Unfortunately, what is certain at this point is that Dorrie/Ma is unable to live independently and arrangements for her long term care are required.  Her daughter Kylie and her family are hopeful that Dorrie will be able to return home to them after her time in the rehabilitation centre and they are prepared to make the necessary adjustments to the family home for her care and comfort.  Making these arrangements comes at an incredible cost, so this is where we ask for your help.

Dorrie/Ma has been such a positive influence on so many of us, whether it be doting on her family, making the time to help her friends or answering a simple question at touch with a friendly smile.  She has enjoyed every moment of her involvement in the greater touch community and is sorely missed at the venues she organises.  She has given so much to us all, so let’s now rally to do something for her.  Every little bit will help so much!

The funds we raise will go towards:

·      The installation of a shower downstairs so that her entire living area will be contained on one level at Kylie’s house
·      Bathroom equipment (railings, seating, hoist, etc)
·      Appropriate bed and seating so that Dorrie may be comfortable at home
·      Wheelchair/walker
·      Any other expenses that may arise with her care (in-home visits, patient transport, etc)

As we all know, Dorrie/Ma is a fierce and determined fighter and we’re sure that with the support of her family and friends, she can rally and get herself the best outcome possible.  Any donations would mean the world to Ma and her family!

If you have any further questions or want to help in other ways just get it contact with Kylie or myself.

MUCH LOVE X
