Many thanks to friends, family and all from the www.dorothyswebsite.org community who have offered kind comments and prayers. Last September I had an emergency triple bypass, something which was a shock to me as I have been an athlete my entire life. However, I hadn't even gone down for surgery when I was visited by a financial representative from the hospital reminding me that I still had an unmet deductible (not to mention all the bills which will be coming in for the operation, hospital stay, doctors visits, medication and recuperation) and asking me if I wanted to set up a payment plan. The total of pre-insurance billings in 2019 was over $300,000, and now the counter has been reset for 2020 for both the deductible and charges toward out-of-pocket maximum expenses.
This was not anything I could have ever imagined or planned for. For those from the www.dorothyswebsite.org community, for more than a decade you have been able to enjoy the site at no cost to you. Now it is my turn to ask for your assistance. Though I have insurance, there will be many deductible and out-of-pocket costs from the heart surgery that will continue in 2020 and that I will need to pay. I have set up this fund with a goal of $5000 to help with those expenses.
