Dorothy Day Garden For The Forgotten & Unloved

Simply put: The Dorothy Day Garden For The Forgotten and Unloved is not going to be easy.

If you have worked with The Forgotten and Unloved for any amount of time you know exactly what I'm talking about. There will be endless times where we will be exasperated, frustrated and just plain exhausted.

But you also know that it will be worth it. Because who among us wouldn't act out if our cries for help continually went unnoticed? Who among us wouldn't lash out emotionally if our mental and physical illnesses went perpetually untreated?  Who among us wouldn't seek comfort and numbing in a bottle or a drug if we lived day in, day out, year in, year out Forgotten and Unloved on the streets of the richest country humanity has ever seen?

My name is Sage. I personally own The Dorothy Day Garden For The Forgotten and Unloved. This will be a place where all are welcome.

If you are Forgotten and Unloved, you are welcome. If you care for the Forgotten and Unloved, you are welcome.

The rules at The Dorothy Day Garden For The Forgotten and Unloved are simple: Do The Right Thing. (This motto of living was given to me by my great homeless friend, Kenny Boldt.)

Now, I know all too well that the devil is in the details of that overarching rule. But we'll make it up as we go.

I will be forever grateful for the work of Dorothy Day. Not only did she leave an incredible legacy of helping those that need help yet are not helped, she has helped me strive to be a better person. To Do The Right Thing.

Dorothy Day was an American journalist, social activist and anarchist who, after a bohemian youth, became a Catholic Christian without in any way abandoning her social and anarchist activism. She was perhaps the best-known political radical in the American Catholic Church.

Dorothy Day is my North Star.  While I'm quite sure she and I would have differences of style and approach (and even certain values), the essence of Dorothy Day is what I am attempting to emulate.

The Dorothy Day Garden For The Forgotten and Unloved will need continual care and attention. All are welcome to help.

You are welcome to bring tables and benches and anything else a lovely garden would need. You are welcome to serve food and have events any time in The Garden. (We may eventually need a schedule, if things go well.)

You are welcome to offer religious services of any sort in The Garden. You are welcome to have concerts in The Garden. You are welcome to have meetings in The Garden. And, of course, you are welcome to just come and sit in The Garden.

The entire purpose of The Dorothy Day Garden For The Forgotten and Unloved is to simply find love. Find love for others. Find love for ourselves. There is nothing expected. There is nothing required. You are perfect and loved just as you are right now.

If you would like to contribute to The Dorothy Day Garden For The Forgotten and Unloved financially that would help a great deal. There are taxes and upkeep at a bare minimum. And then any additional money will go towards events and Garden items like benches and tables and anything else that might make The Garden more inviting.

As always, thank you for your endless support and love. Nothing is possible without you.

I love you,
Sage
