Dormition of the Virgin Mary Church

Donation protected
The Dormition of the Virgin Mary Church, located at 29 Central Street in Somerville, Massachusetts was founded over 100 years ago. One of the main reasons the Church has been able to keep its doors open for this long is due to the hard work of its priests and parishioners who are dedicated to ensuring the Church is available to all who wish to be a part of its historic spiritual community.

As many of you know, the Church holds a weekend-long festival each year during the second weekend in September.   This year due to the Covid-19 pandemic, we cannot entertain all of you with our full festival.  Our Church cannot run its weekend-long festival and therefore, it will be difficult for the Church to maintain its financial obligations.  A two-day mini festival selling gyro and loukoumades will be held. If you wish to purchase a gyro or loukoumades, you can find more information here: Dormition of the Virgin Mary  .

Another way to offer support to our beloved Church is by making a contribution utilizing this GoFundMe Page. No donation is too small.

The festival is the Church’s main annual fundraiser. The proceeds raised are used to subsidize the monthly expenses of the Church. The Church relies on a portion of the income from the annual festival to help keep its many ministries active. Aside from the weekly Church services, the Church offers ongoing Bible Study classes, Greek School lessons, Sunday School, several young adult organizations, Golden Club for our senior citizens, Altar Boys and Church Music.

Most importantly we use this money for outreach. This year we have added an item line in our budget to dedicate 1% of our annual income to reach out to the larger community in supporting different charity organizations such us Philoxenia House and Greater Boston Food Bank. The Dormition Table helps feed the less fortunate in the Somerville community.

The Dormition of the Virgin Mary is a community of good, hardworking people who also rely on the good people of Somerville and the neighboring communities who have supported the Church each year by attending its festival. Because of the unprecedented financial situation created by the COVID-19 global pandemic this year our church more than ever relies on the generosity of all friends.  The Dormition of the Virgin Mary Greek Orthodox Church is eternally grateful for your support, currently and over the past years.  Our Church could not have achieved its success without your help.

With the grace of God, we will continue our mission and fundraising efforts to keep our doors open so that future generations can enjoy the membership of our historic community to be the recipients of the spiritual and cultural treasures of Eastern Orthodoxy.

Please help us achieve our ongoing goals by making a food purchase or a donation. With God’s help, we hope and look forward to seeing you again at our next full festival in 2021.  Stay well until then.

Eternally Grateful,

Fr. Anthony Tandilyan and Parishioners of the Dormition of the Virgin Mary Greek Orthodox Church
