Doris Duke Mansion Legal Defense

Donation protected
Update:  Friends, the mansion is rubble. Furious winds are blowing from the heavens in protest of the demolition. The DORIS appeal continues. Funding is needed more now than ever. Please send and share this far and wide. We are the family that Doris never had. Never in her wildest dreams did she believe that her cherished home would be reduced to splinters by the very people to whom she would entrust her estate. Let them rebuild it brick by brick, and let it be built to be suitable to one of the myriad missions of the Duke family, for the benefit of the community to which Doris so generously donated. Donations and prayers urgently requested.

I will post an update, but the most recent link that I found at NJ.com is this:

Update:   February 27,2016 DORIS hosted "An Afternoon with Doris Duke", in an attempt to inform the people of the community of the facts surrounding the Doris Duke Charitable Foundation and the Doris Duke Foundation's decision to demolish the Duke Mansion. Please see a very well written article written by Rod Hirsch

The matter currently rests with the Somerset County Courts, and we anticipate the decision of Superior Court Judge Yolanda Ciccone on or before March 4, 2016.

Update:  To celebrate the life and times of Doris Duke, the DORIS group gathered at Duke Island Park on the afternoon of Sunday, 12/6/15. The speakers were Rikki Lyn Haus, Elizabeth McConville, David Brook and Kim Hansen. You may contact DORIS directly at [email redacted] for more information.

As previously posted: We, the people of the communities surrounding the Duke Estate in Hillsborough, NJ, have joined together to work to preserve the Duke Mansion and prevent it's demolition by the Duke Farms Foundation.  They've applied to Hillsborough Township for a permit to demolish it because they claim that they have no place in their mission for it.  We're up against Goliath, but we've got a sling and a stone and a passion to restore the grandeur of the beating heart of this estate.

But passion has its costs.  We have purchased signs, posters, printed materials and even airfare. We face the potential of great legal action, and the estate has more money at its disposal than any of us could ever count in our lifetime.

At this time we plead for the generosity of those who would become the family that Doris never had, and support the preservation of this historic structure by donating generously to the costs that we have and will continue to incur as we continue to organize and deploy any and all legal measures to prevent the destruction of the mansion of one of the wealthiest families in the industrial revolution of the United States of America.
