After much hesitation and my pleasure to assist, Doris & James agreed to setting up this fund.
As some of you may know, Doris was diagnosed with colon cancer back in October 2014. She underwent surgery successfully and the results came back at Stage 2. Both the colon rectal surgeon and oncologist at the time did not see a need for any chemo and/or radiation. She was hitting her three (3) year mark cancer free but wasn’t feeling her best. Doris immediately made an appointment with her gastroenterologist, who sent her for testing to include a colonoscopy, MRI, CT scans and biopsy. To her horror, the colon cancer cells have metastasized; travelling to other parts of the body. She has been on chemo since December 11, 2017 and every two weeks after that. Each chemo visit is $1400 (patient cost) and at some point, this year she will undergo two surgeries. They are already over $6,000 in medical bills and with the start of a new year comes a clean slate of deductibles and out-of-pocket expense before their insurance kicks in. If they can reach $10,000, it will help them meet the deductible and out of pocket expenses as they continue meeting their medical expenses and payments. One never thinks an emergency savings can be immediately wiped away by a medical situation. If there is by chance, any money received in excess of their medical needs, they are committed to donating it to St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital.
