My name is Trevor McIntosh.  I'm a proud American and Bahamian.  I have created this GoFundMe to support my family and community living in the Bahamas recover in the wake of hurricane Dorian.

The Bahamas has been severely destroyed by Hurricane Dorian. My family's hometowns of Freeport and Abaco have been wrecked.  Freeport is underwater and Abaco has been leveled.  Today I found out that my nephew died in the hurricane.  His last act was saving his son by placing him in a tree as the waters rose and running off to save someone else. Please take time to read the article  that speaks of my nephew and his bravery.

My heart aches not only for my family but for my fellow Bahamians and all affected by this hurricane.
We just received word from the island that supplies are scarce and inaccessible.  Currently, there is no running water or electricity, shelters are few and far in between, and most houses are destroyed.  We are looking to raise $200,000 to help rescue and rebuild not just for our family but for our community as a whole. My wife and I, along with some of her co-workers from a hospital in the New Orleans Area, are planning to travel to the Bahamas and deliver the supplies ourselves.

You may be wondering WHY we are asking you to donate to this fundraising campaign, rather than encourage you to donate to larger, well-known relief organizations. The reasons for our efforts are quite straight forward:

1) Our aim, first and foremost is to provide immediate relief to the most affected communities, with the fewest resources. Governments and aid groups can be very slow at distributing resources, and time is not on our side. My niece is 7 months pregnant, and my nephew is running out of asthma medication. They have no shelter, no safe water to drink, no food, and little to no clothes. The entire neighborhood has the same problems. The situation is critical.

2) Large organizations typically work in tandem with local governments, which means private citizens have very little say about where, how and how fast those ressources are allocated. Raising funds independently allows us to bypass a lot of the red tape those private organizations have to get through before being able to make a significant change, and ensures that our family and community will get the help they deserve and so desperately need.

Funds we raise will go to acquire and distribute to following supplies:

Water
Generators
Clothes of all sizes
Diapers
Adult briefs
Toiletries
Sanitary napkins
Underwear
Nonperishable foods
Tarps
Bleach
Mops
Buckets
Bedding/ blankets
Pillows

Medical supplies for Rand Memorial Hospital in Freeport, Bahamas.
