Doreen Ruto's Legacy Fund

Donation protected
On Thursday evening, January 21st 2016, we lost our beloved mom, daughter, sister and colleague, Ms. Doreen Jemutai Ruto. Doreen was married to the late Mr. William Mutai, a long-time friend whom she had met in Kenyatta University. Together, they raised two sons, Richy and Ronny. Her husband later passed in 1998, during the US Embassy bombing.

Doreen cared about and worked toward building a more peaceful and just Kenya. She worked to help people in many different contexts – in her own country and elsewhere – rebuild their lives in the midst of or aftermath of traumatic violence, drawing upon her own experience with adversity.

In 2011, she founded Daima Initiatives for Peace and Development (DiPaD), an NGO that has strived to empower communities undergoing social change and conflict, with friends. Before passing on 21st January 2016,   Doreen had undertaken a variety of projects in Kenya and around the world with DiPaD, including the Justice that Heals program (a program that sought to bring together and help professionals in Kenya integrate concepts of trauma, resilience, and restorative justice into their work); projects supporting communities in Tana River, Mount Elgon, and Kuria; the National Peace Education Campaign; mentoring women peace-builders with Eastern Mennonite University in the USA; facilitating STAR training in Somaliland and South Sudan; and journeying with trauma victims through trauma and resilience trainings, including the recent survivors of the Westgate and Garissa University attack.

Doreen was a teacher, a human resource development expert, certified STAR trainer, mentor, trauma expert, and a peace-builder.

Those of us who love Doreen want to help ensure that Richy and Ronny have everything they need -- now and (especially) in the future.  Please contribute to help provide for Ronny’s college funds. These funds may also be used to advance ideas about which Doreen was passionate.

Be Blessed.
