SKILLET is a new programme where unemployed, Dublin inner-city youth get the opportunity to host their own pop-up restaurant in the magnificent environs of the Royal College of Surgeons, Ireland. In the process, they will also be learning from the very best of the best in the Dublin food industry. Not only will they be learning from the greatest chefs in the city, but they will also be trained on how to do flawless front of the house, be schooled on how to pick the perfect green papaya at an Asian market, and how to serve and appreciate the finest cheese. In the process they will also experience the thrill of working as a team, being creative and getting a job well done.
Unemployment is a problem that affects 28% of the young people in Ireland today. SKILLET recruits from a number of organisations that are addressing this problem, including temporary shelters, youth outreach programs at at the YMCA, and initiatives like Care After Prison. We hope that SKILLET may be able to expose unemployed youth to opportunities that they may not have otherwise had.
In order for this to happen, a select few and wonderful people have volunteered their expertise, wares, and premises, but we still need to make sure that our students are equipped with what they need, and that all their customers are properly fed in the most stylish way possible! Hence, we would appreciate any donation you can kick in. Any dollar, euro, or yen will do.
The training begins on MONDAY 8th SEPTEMBER, and the pop up is being hosted on TUESDAY16th SEPTEMBER.
Any money remaining will be donated to a charity chosen by the Dublin youth participants.
