Doorstep Delivered Food Boxes During COVID-19

Addressing Food Equity and Food Insecurity: Community Action of Eastern Iowa is responding to food equity in eastern Iowa by delivering food boxes directly to the doorstep of local residents who are battling food insecurity during the COVID-19 pandemic.
Why We Need Your Help: Before the COVID-19 pandemic, Community Action and its partner organizations would fulfill about a dozen requests for food in a week. This past week we delivered more than 500 boxes. We have received generous grants from the Regional Development Authority ($15,000), the Quad Cities Community Foundation ($15,000), Delta Dental of Iowa ($5,000), and Cobham Mission Systems (in-kind donation of boxes valued at about $2,000). Even with these generous grants, we will not be able to keep up with the incredible need for delivered food. Please consider a donation. Your gift will go entirely to the purchase of food.
How Can Households Request Food: Please go to our website to request food. We are also delivering diapers. Households must live in Scott, Cedar, Clinton, or Muscatine Counties. There are currently no income guidelines. We are delivering food to anyone who needs it. It currently takes us about one day to fill an order. We deliver every weekday, and on weekends when the household doesn't have enough food to get by until Monday.
Keeping our Staff and Volunteers Safe: We are practicing what we call the "Ding-Dong-Ditch" method. We knock on the household's door, step back, and when they open the door we say hello then take off, headed to the next house, always respecting social distancing. On days it doesn't rain, we put the boxes outside, and our drivers back up to load their vehicles before heading out on their delivery routes.
