On St Stephen's day townlands will go head-to-head with the pride of Doonbeg's ladies and mens teams joining forces in Shanahan McNamara Memorial Park in order to take home the cup and shield trophies for 2018. Doonbeg East/Rhynagonnaught will aim to retain their cup title while the shield, won last year by the Munster club winning Doonbeg team of 1998 will once again be up for grabs.
Games will begin at 12pm with two groups divided into 3 and 4 teams playing off against each other, the Shield Final beginning at 2:30pm and the Cup Final at 3pm. Awards and the prize draw will take place in Tubridy's Bar Doonbeg at 8pm that evening.
The Christmas Day Swim returns for its sixth consecutive year this year. Time to dig out your swimming togs/bathing suit/novelty costume and get to the white strand for 12:30pm on Christmas Day. All proceeds again to Milford Care Centre with a prize for the best dressed! €10 entry fee.
We were delighted to raise €18,380 in aid of Milford Care Centre from the 2017 event, which was used to purchase 10 beds in the new hospice unit at Milford. Milford Care Centre has been retained as the benefitting charity as they have provided exceptional care to so many people in their time of need, with excellent care and support given to people from our parish in recent times.
The Kate Behan Memorial Award for Woman of the Tournament and Pat Blake Memorial Award for Man of the Tournament will once again be presented on the day, alongside trophies for both the Cup and Shield winners.
